Act now to keep your N3 services live and prevent cessation (Jun 2015)
The NHS restructure, which included the dissolution of Primary Care Trusts, came into effect on the 1st April 2013. Two years later, there are still approximately 1500 services within the N3 estate which are registered to organisations which have closed. The cost to the NHS for these connections exceeds £1m a year, so it’s vital that owners are identified or services are ceased if appropriate. In addition, and to ensure continued security of the N3 network, we need to understand if these services are still being used and if so, by which organisation. Read more ....
Low utilisation project (Jun 2015)
N3SP and HSCIC are in the process of running wave 14 of the Low Utilisation project. This project identifies sites which are either unreachable or have little or no usage (peak traffic of less than 0.1% of capacity in both directions over three months). This project is already underway and communications have been sent to the organisations with low usage sites. Read more ....
Network upgrades boost performance for NHS (Jun 2015)
The Healthcare and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) continues to invest in the latest technology to support healthcare professionals. Together with N3SP, it has successfully completed an upgrade of the Enhanced Internet Gateway (EIG), the part of N3 that carries traffic to and from the internet, from 5Gbs to 8Gbs, as well as boosting the performance of the N3 core network. NHS smartcard to enable N3 access (May 2015)
Using N3 remote access services as a means of accessing patient information and other business applications – whether at home, on the move, or visiting a patient - just got simpler. N3 is looking to support the use of a health workers existing NHS Smartcard to remotely connect to N3. The enhancement to N3 remote access will enable a single authentication method to gain access to N3 as well as the existing estate of Smartcard enabled applications. Currently healthcare workers require both an NHS Smartcard and a remote token to enable access. Read more ....
Latest Quality of Service refresh hits staggering 99.9 percent success rate (May 2015)
The latest annual quality of service (QoS) refresh for N3 has had a staggering 99.9% success rate in refreshing all customer premises equipment (CPE) connected to the N3 network. The QoS refresh updates the network CPE to the latest access control settings to ensure that traffic is prioritised. This enables key services such as Choose and Book, the Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions and the transmission of digital images such as x-rays and scans to take precedence over less important traffic. N3 funding in 2015-16 (Apr 2015)
Authorisation is in place for the continued funding of N3 live service on the existing terms until March 2016. N3 users can continue to order N3 services in the normal way and any changes in these arrangements will be communicated in advance to customers.
Introducing the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) (Dec 2014)
The Public Services Network for Health (PSNH) programme has recently changed its name to the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN). The HSCN programme will provide the replacement for the N3 network and is currently working up options to establish a reliable, fast and safe mechanism for health and social care organisations to exchange information in the future.

To make N3 Videoconferencing even more attractive, N3SP is offering discounts of up to 25 percent on complete Polycom video conferencing solutions for a limited period only. The special deal, aimed at four to eight users, includes full installation, all the necessary hardware plus maintenance for a year. The stand can be fitted with castors to enable the equipment to be rolled into any room so users don’t need a dedicated room solely for videoconferencing.There is a choice of single or dual displays and 46 and 55 inch NEC screens.
N3 WebJoin – making web-conferencing even easier (Nov 2014)
N3 has announced a new enhancement to its web-conferencing service, N3 WebEx, to make it easier for participants and conference organisers to join a call.
